Frequently Asked Questions

Can I start treatment without a prescription from my physician?

Yes. As in many other states, here in New York you have direct access to physical therapy. This means you can be evaluated and treated without a doctor's prescription. A prescription is needed after 30 days or 10 visits (whichever comes first) since the day of your physical therapy evaluation.

Do you accept my insurance for physical therapy visits?

I am considered an out-of-network provider with all insurance companies. If your plan offers out of network benefits, I can provide you with the necessary paperwork to ask your insurance company for reimbursement. However, payment is due at the time of service.

How long does a physical therapy cycle last?

The frequency of sessions and length of a physical therapy cycle are hard to predict because recovery is usually not a linear process.

Most of my patients start with one weekly session for the first 3-4 weeks. During this initial phase, we start working on pain management and create an exercise plan together. After the initial phase, some patients decide to continue physical therapy once a week, while others prefer opting for one session every two weeks, with periodic exercise program updates. Gradually we reduce sessions to once a months and then one every 3-6 months to monitor progress.

What should I expect from our online sessions?

Online physical therapy sessions are structured much like traditional, in-person physical therapy. We start with a conversation: listening to your story is the first step. This part of the visit allows me to get a sense of what you are having difficulty with, what your symptoms are and also understand the goals that matter to you.
After this, we will dedicate time for a physical examination: we will dive deeper into what movement or position you are having difficulty with, we will test muscle strength and joint mobility. After this we will come up with a plan on how to move forward, depending on what you want to achieve.

What do I need for our online visits?

To ensure the best treatment experience it is advised to be in a quiet space with enough room for you to move, lie down and sit. Wearing comfortable and tight fitting clothes like yoga pants or workout attire helps me getting a better sense of how your body moves. You also need to have good lighting so I can see you clearly, a strong internet connection, and a spot to place your computer for a clear camera view.

Can you provide online physical therapy to people living anywhere in the US?

Online physical therapy is subject to the same laws and regulations as in-person physical therapy. In the United States, I am licensed only in the state of New York. This means I am legally allowed to provide online physical therapy services (evaluation and treatment) only to residents of NY State.

If you are out-of-state and are looking for help in your strengthening journey, I offer hypermobility coaching programs. Reach out to learn more.
